short scale guitar lack base, but have good string string action and good trebble.
BRidge pressed on top of the soundboard like a violin is inefficient for make good resonance with the soundboard.
Bridge mount and placement is incredibly important to the sound of a guitar. Put the bridge in the center of the guitar for best monopole motion of the soundboard (good bass).

Sound ports (on the top of the side of the guitar) so the player can hear it better, though it makes the sound from the soundhole quiter.

Braces are tall and thin because of the formula for deflection of a beam and this makes it easier to tune the braces for a good full sounds. For instance: a 1" tall by 2" wide you 'll get 2xs the stiffness, but turn that 90 degrees to be 2" tall by 1" wide, you get 8times the stffness due to the cube rule in the

Dome tops don't need bracing for strength.

The bridge placement depends on the neck placement. The distance is usually a standard size for scales. Shellac is a very thin finish and is the best finish use, though heat is bad for it, and it rubs off.

For the rest of the Uke, I've done a quite a bit of research in how to make it correctly. THis video shows how and why guitar braces are used: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0FT2nsg0sQ
